Good Afternoon East Greenwich Residents:
Some of you may already be aware, but in November of 2020, Governor Phil Murphy signed into effect Daniel’s Law, which prohibits disclosure of personal information (addresses, numbers, etc.) of certain law enforcement officers, judicial officers, judges and prosecutors. This new law essentially amends OPRA and other statutes, and impose criminal and civil action for disclosing such information as part of the regulations. The new law is named in honor of Daniel Anderl, the late son of U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas. Daniel was tragically killed in an act of senseless gun violence committed by an individual who had compiled a dossier of personal information about Judge Salas, including the judge’s home address.
East Greenwich Township has always been the home to many residents and families dedicated to public service and first response, and I want to make sure you are all aware of this critical new law, establishing crucial protections. This month, the State of New Jersey (DCA) formally established an online Daniel’s Law portal, making it very easy for those authorized persons to register, create an account and apply to have specific personal information redacted from certain records and postings. If you already have a My New Jersey Account, you can also easily link the two. If you have interest and feel that this law can protect you or your family, please visit: www.danielslaw.nj.gov Instructions on how to submit a registration request are directly on the home page of this link.
We have also updated our Department Webpage, under the Information section, to include the web link for the New Daniel’s Law Portal.
As always, stay safe and healthy!
